RG Carter Trip
6 students from year 12 who are currently studying the City and Guilds L3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Constructing the Built Environment qualification visited the site in Huntingdon (accompanied by two teachers).
As part of the course the students will study a variety of aspects relating to the built environment/construction industry.
The students have recently completed the section of the course relating to Domestic Construction Technology and the site visit was to enable the pupils to see first-hand the materials and techniques that they had been learning about in class.
As part of the course students need to have involvement and contact with employers and industry professionals.
During the visit the students were given full PPE and given a guided tour of the construction site by Christopher Hill (Assistant Project Manager) where they were able to ask questions and given the opportunity to discuss what they could see. They also met with other personnel to learn about the different job roles.
They were also shown examples of the completed buildings and could see the finished product.
RG Carter also organized a practical activity where the students were instructed on how the walls were constructed and could see each of the elements in place. The pupils then were able to have ago at doing this themselves.
