Student Journey
  • Finley

I wanted to join the UTC because I want to do mechanical engineering, this is what I want to do as my career in the future. Originally I wanted to join the navy and be a marine engineer but I have had a rethink and now I want to do engineering at Perkins Engines, who are one of our sponsors. The options I chose to study at GCSE are engineering, product design, computer science and triple science. Engineering has to be my favourite subject. The UTC differs to my previous school as the days are longer and it is more of a work environment than a school environment as the UTC is preparing us for the world of work. My old school also didn’t offer Engineering as an option, you could only do product design or design and technology at GCSE. The highlight of my year has been getting a Distinction 2 star in engineering which I am really proud of. I would 100% recommend young people to come to the UTC, if they have the right mentality and want a job in the engineering or built environment industry then this is the best school in Peterborough for it. I love the fact that the school has sponsors because it means we are able to get involved in workplace activities and learn what it is like to be in the world of work before we even leave school.
